Style Inspiration - Color!

July 30, 2014

I know everyone is on the Fall train, but I'm not ready to let go of Summer just yet. I want to keep the long days and vibrant colors going. Sharing some of my favorite inspirations via Vogue Mexico, Vogue Australia and Harper's Bazaar.

Cheers!

Summer Rain

July 28, 2014

This morning I woke up wishing for rain and mother nature delivered.
As I was heading home from the Farmer's Market with my usual purchases, it started to pour down rain. It was warm and tropical, it felt wonderful. I even slowed down my walk so I could enjoy the drops on my skin. There was even a little thunder, so I opened up the windows in our apartment to enjoy the sound of the rain with the occasion thunder roll. I loved it.

Style Muse - María Félix

July 24, 2014

María Félix was a legendary Mexican actress also known as "La Doña".
María 's film career blossomed in 1942 during what is known as the Mexican Golden Age of Film. Her film career spanned over 29 years which includes 47 films.

María is well known for her constant cigarette, tiny waist and extravagant fashion.  She was dressed by Christian Dior, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Balenciaga. The House of Hermès would create custom extravagant designs for her. María's style was always feminine, even when she was dressed down in boots. She had a love for jewelry, especially if it came in the shape of a snake or reptile. María once walk into Cartier in New York with a live baby crocodile in jar and commissioned a necklace be created for her in the same shape and size as the baby crocodile. She requested it be made of gold and jewels. That piece of jewelry became her trademark. After her death, Cartier displayed the necklace as part of "The Art of Cartier Collection" in several museums around the world. In 2006 Cartier honored Maria by featuring a "La Doña de Cartier" collection which included jewelry, accessories, handbags and watches.

María inspires me because she was her own woman. She did what she pleased in all aspects of her life and did not apologize for it, especially when it came to her personal style. She was flamboyant, strong and outspoken. Her style was very much influenced by her Mexican culture and she was proud of it. In my opinion, María is the legendary Spanish Muse.

Who knew I could find a cacti oasis in the middle of Beverly Hills?
This might be my new favorite place for pictures.

I had been searching for the perfect yellow dress for some time, but never found one that was quite right. Liberty Sage sent me this dress and it's so much sexier in person than on the website. The shade is a perfect golden yellow, the fabric flows beautifully and I love the over-sized pockets. It's ideal for a date night or a summer wedding.

We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday over the weekend with a fancy dinner, which meant I finally got to wear this special dress. This dress is special because of the story behind it. A couple of months ago I was out shopping with my boyfriend, we were getting him clothes for our trip to Mexico. He was showing me something, when I spotted this little number on the wall. My jaw dropped. My boyfriend saw my reaction and insisted that I try it on. I refused, not only were we not shopping for me, but the price tag was out of our range. I didn't want to try it on, I feared I would just want it more. I didn't allow myself to even touch the dress and we moved on with our shopping.  A week later I was having a very rough work week and ended up making a tough professional decision, I was very emotional. I came home from work and found this dress hanging on my closet door with a love note attached to it. I lost it. I bawled my eyes out and just hugged him. It meant so much, not just the dress, but the gesture, the note and the never ending support I get from him.

Later he told me that he went back to the store and could not find the dress. The sales associate told him a woman was trying it on. He waited outside the fitting rooms and the woman even walked out with it on, but she was having a hard time figuring it out. He then told her he was there to buy that dress for me. She said she wished me luck in figuring out how to wear it. The woman handed him the dress on her way out of the fitting rooms.

I love this dress, but it's the love story behind the dress that really gets me.

Fashion Show - Naeem Khan Spring 2014

July 12, 2014

Am I the only one tardy for the Naeem Khan party?
I cannot believe I've not heard of this ridiculously talented designer until now.
I came across one piece from his Spring 2014 collection and fell deeper in love as I saw each individual piece. The Latin influences speak so deeply to me. It's a blend of Frida Kahlo and Mexican architecture with mariachi influences. It's my wildest dreams come to life.
Absolutely delicious.
Bravo Naeem Khan.

Happy Birthday!

July 9, 2014

Today I get to celebrate the amazing person that I'm fortunate enough to share my life with. Every day that I wake up next to him I continue to feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Men like him are one in a million. He is more than I ever dreamed of asking in a partner; loving, affectionate, smart, supportive, patient, understanding, generous, protective and passionate. I love his imagination, devotion to learning new things  and constant wonder of the world around us. I love him entirely, from the leather pants he lives in to his never ending book collection.

Happy Birthday to the Love of My Life.
