Birds of Paradise

June 30, 2014

I've recently found myself overwhelmingly drawn to print, especially the bright and bold. I found this top in a thrift store and loved the colors and red lace trim. I decided to be adventurous and pair it with an unexpected print, paint splatter. I completed the look by adding yet another wild pattern with peacock earrings. Mixing this much print is new for me, but I love the experimentation process and evolution involved with personal style.

Jane Jetson

June 26, 2014

When I first spotted this top, I immediately thought of Jane Jetson because of the layered peplum. It also has a futuristic feel, with the trim and neoprene feel of the material.

I found this while shopping with my sister. I forced her to try it on over her tank in the middle of the isle even though she was hesitant. She ended up loving it just as much and we each purchased one. It's so funny how things change. When we were children my mom used to dress us as twins since we are a little over a year apart. We both hated it. Now as adults we get giddy over the idea "we can be twins!"

Denim on Denim

June 24, 2014

I don't usually like to wear this much denim, but there was something refreshing about pairing these two denim items together.

What is your take on wearing denim on denim?

Fairy Cape

June 19, 2014

This lacy cape makes me feel like a fairy.
It has so much beautiful movement and detailing.
I think by now you guys know I'm a bargain hunter. In addition to that, I will shop anywhere, I do not discriminate. I found this beautiful cape in the clearance section of Ross. It was hanging half off the hanger and it had a large hole in it. I asked for a 25% discount for the hole, which I got, knowing I could easily sew it up. I'm thankful my mom taught me how to sew as a young girl.

Sometimes it's not about the labels or where you got it,
but the potential of an unexpected piece you encounter sadly hanging by a thread in the clearance section.

I decided to try a different hair style for this outfit, this was my first attempt at the famous fishtail braid. I watched a few YouTube videos to get it right. There were a lot of loose hairs around my face, so I used several bobby pins to hold them in place. I was happy with the results and surprised at how comfortable it was to wear a side braid.

Have you tried the fishtail hairstyle yet?

Disco Queen

June 14, 2014

Last weekend I drove up to Sacramento to meet up with girlfriends. On Saturday there was a BBQ with one group of girls, we get together each year to indulge in quality girl time. Then I met up with my sister and girlfriend. We ended up getting dressed up and having tapas and drinks at Tapa the World, then headed to Mango's Antro to dance it off. I love dancing to all Latin music; salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, ranchera, banda... we danced all night. Mango's is great, it has three large dance rooms, all with different music and a breezy courtyard to cool off.

This is what I wore out that night. It was light and airy, so I could keep dancing. I love the sleeves and sequins on this top, it has a great 70's-disco vibe. Perfect for a girl's night out.

Lace & Bells

June 11, 2014

I was recently given the opportunity to review a handbag from the new Gregory Sylvia collection. Gregory Sylvia is a luxury handbag line created and designed by a husband and wife team, I love that they combined their names for the label. For a luxury handbag collection, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. It was hard picking my favorite because the designs are all beautiful, but I finally went with the Luxi knowing I would wear it the most. It also comes in a gorgeous hot pink tone. From the beginning I loved the design, it's sophisticated and classic. The silver hardware gives it a nice edge and the signature logo in the front makes it look fancy. The quality really exceeded my expectations, the leather is strong and gorgeous. The stitching is also beautifully executed. The strap is adjustable, which I always appreciate. It's already become one of my go-to bags in my closet due to it's perfect balance of beauty and functionality.

This whole outfit was designed around the bag; all black with silver hardware. I recently scored these Dolce & Gabbana pants in a local thrift store, they are truly a great find. I paired them with a lace top, sky high platforms and silver matching cuffs to complete the look.

Cheers!

Matador

This skirt continues to be one of my favorite items in my closet; the color, the design, the movement. An added bonus is that you can feel like a bull fighter if you aimlessly swing it around while your boyfriend take pictures.

Sunset Beach Picnic

June 3, 2014

There is no question I love the beach life, especially when you add friends and food the mix. We had some great friends visiting from out of town and decided to have a beach picnic at sunset. The setting could no have been more perfect on the Santa Monica beach. Marshalls was kind enough to provide all the essentials for the perfect gathering. I loved all the items I found; quilted blanket, fruit infusion pitcher, recycled glass cups and adorable lobster plastic plates. I was even lucky enough to find a new beach umbrella for only $15. I've learned over the years, that regardless of the item you are searching for, it's always a great idea to check out Marshalls first, I usually find just what I'm looking for (and usually a few other things).

We feasted on a Mediterranean inspired pasta salad, a pear and walnut salad tossed in raspberry vinaigrette, homemade hummus and pita bread, fresh melon, strawberry infused water and some delicious bubbly.

We had a great time catching up, sinking our feet into the sand and watching the gorgeous sun set behind the mountains. It was a great way to celebrate friendship, delicious food and the beginning of summer.

Cheers!
