Leopard Love

January 29, 2014

I keep thinking that I'm going to get tired of leopard print one day, but it has yet to happen. My sister and I joke that we're going to be the old ladies wearing leopard print tights and too much lipstick at the end of the bar laughing about it over cocktails one day. That indeed might be us one day :).

Happy Wednesday!

Dove Grey

January 16, 2014

I'm loving my most recent Marshall's find, this soft and buttery faux leather skirt.
It's so comfortable and versatile. I love it worn with my trusty black leather boots. I realized the other day that I've had these boots for about 10 years now, they have been to the shoe repair man a few times, but they seem to just get better with age and no other knee high boot I find compares to them.

Wishing you a very happy Thursday!

Recipe ~ Parmesan Crusted Pear and Brie Sandwich

January 14, 2014

It's been a while since I've blogged a new recipe. This little number happened by accident last week and turned out to be a hit. It's not the healthiest option, but a nice little weekend cheat lunch. Enjoy!

-1 Pear
-Brie Cheese (I found a yummy goat cheese brie)
-Sliced bread (sourdough is the best tasting option, but I went with wheat to help balance the calories)
-Fresh spinach leaves
-Parmesan, freshly grated
-Avocado (optional)

1. Slice the pear into thin slices. Set aside.
2. Slice the brie into thin slices. Set aside.
3. Shred a few ounces of parmesan. Set aside.
4. Heat a flat griddle on low heat.
5. Place the sliced bread on the griddle and let it warm up a bit, just a few seconds.
6. Spinkle about an ounce of the shredded parmesan directly on the griddle over the area that you will cover with the bread. Immediately place the sliced bread over the cheese covered area. Now slide the bread around the griddle in a circular motion until it picks up all the cheese (the cheese should stick to the bread and start to slightly toast. I recommend doing this to both slices.
7. While the bread is on the griddle, add the sliced brie, pear and a few leaves of spinach. Add a small amount of thinly sliced avocado. Let the sandwich continue to heat for about two minutes while checking the parmesan, it should brown and look like the picture above.
8. Remove from heat and connect the sandwich.
9. Serve and enjoy!

Black Swing

January 9, 2014

I've mentioned before just how much I appreciate a good tailor and I've been fortunate to find an amazing one here in LA. His name is Gustavo and we have quickly become good friends. Spanish is his first language so each time I come by, I end up sitting around and chatting with him. He knows how much I love fashion, so he'll show me some of the pieces he's working on or share a recent hilarious story. Aside from the great stories Gustavo dishes, he also provides remarkable craftsmanship at reasonable prices.

I recently found this black COS swing dress at Buffalo Exchange and I did not like the length, but the cut, material and volume were magnificent, so I purchased it knowing that Gustavo would work his magic on it. The sleeves were too long and the angled cut with the length did not work for my size. Gustavo made it shorter, evened out the angle and shortened the sleeves. I love the final outcome! It feels modern, sassy and fits perfectly. Check out the before photo below;

Happy Thursday!

Marshalls Spring 2014 Lifestyle Photo Shoot - Behind the Scenes

January 6, 2014

I had the amazing opportunity to shoot behind the scenes for the Marshalls Spring 2014 Lifestyle Shoot in Malibu this past weekend. The location and weather could not have been more perfect. It was sunny and the lighting was beautiful. The Marshalls staff and crew were warm and welcoming, going out of their way to explain the details and everyone's roles. It was not only exciting to be there, but to be able to see it come together and better understand the behind the scenes details was such a treat.

The campaign will be launched in March of 2014 and focuses on Spring trends; washed silks, lace, and textured fabrics. The bags and shoes were gorgeous! I also fell in love with a mint green Theory leather jacket hanging on the rack.

I can't wait to see the final campaign and am grateful to Marshalls
and the entire crew for allowing me to be a part of this beautiful shoot!
