2014 Favorite Looks

December 29, 2014

I'm sharing my favorite five looks of the year.
I was looking back and analyzing why they are my favorite and what they have in common? The common thread is that I felt very confident in all of them. They made me feel confident because they were uncomplicated, comfortable and they reflected the positive energy I felt inside. There was a connection with all of these looks and they helped to enhance my best self that day.

Cheers to 2014!

It's the end of the year and everything feels slow and sleepy, which surprisingly makes me want to clean out my closet and prepare for the new year. Editing my closet always makes me examine the pieces that I've had for years and still love, like this coat.  My general rule is that if the item hasn't been worn in the last year, then I probably won't wear it again and it's only taking up precious closet place. Then I usually donate it or list it on eBay.

What is your general rule when editing your wardrobe?

I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season.
I love this time of year so much, the decorations, the music and warmth.

I decided to add these glossy leggings to this skirt, to make it more appropriate for the colder weather. I like the mix of textures in the same color; feathers, gloss, patent, cotton and the pebbled leather bag. The mix adds depth to an all black ensemble.

Technicolor Dreamcoat

December 17, 2014

The thrift stores in Los Angeles are ridiculous. I am always amazed at the beautiful and unique items I find. Many of the items are brand new with the original tags attached. I found this sweater in a thrift store earlier this year, just hanging out by it's lonesome for a mere $20. And it was brand new! I am definitely addicted to the high I feel when I find something awesome, but I try to contain myself and only fuel my thrift habit about once a month.

Little Lace Dress

December 15, 2014

Black dresses are like black shoes, the more options you have, the better.
I came across this little number and fell in love. The delicate lace edges around the neckline and back add elegance and femininity. The best thing about this dress is that it stretches, so I can sit and eat and still breathe. It's the perfect little black lace dress for the holidays.

Christmas Gifts Under $30

December 12, 2014

I don't think you have to spend hundreds of dollars on a Christmas gift to make it feel special. Buying something small that reminds you of that person along with a personalized note can have a more meaningful impact. Here are a few items that can add a little luxury to someone's life without breaking the bank.

p.s. I know I overdid it here with the ice molds, but I have both items and recommend them, especially the sphere ice molds if you have a scotch drinker on your list.

1. Gleaming Isla Candles
2. Sphere Ice Molds
3. Round Pop Molds
4. Beer Foamer
5. Flowerbomb Rollerball
6. Isosceles Cuff Bracelet

Tweed + Loafers

December 10, 2014

I love heels, but sometimes my feet need a break. These are my go-to comfy shoes that still feel stylish. They are the first pair of loafers I've owned! I love the soft pointed toe and sculpted edges, it gives them a touch a femininity. They are also surprisingly versatile, I wear these a lot with cut-off shorts and a basic white tee.

Happy Wednesday!

How gorgeous are these sunglasses?
They make me feel so glamorous! I'm ready to go on vacation and lay on the beach just so I can wear these! That probably won't be happening any time soon, but at least I feel fancy while I'm sitting in LA traffic getting my errands done.

Happy Monday!

White Jeans

December 7, 2014

During Thanksgiving week I made a visit to my hairdresser in Sacramento and cut about four inches off my hair. It feels so good and fresh. If you are in the area and looking, try Maria at Focus Hair Studio. She is so skilled and understands my thick and wavy hair.

Now about this outfit.
I know there is a style rule that you are not supposed to wear white after Labor Day. I think it's a silly rule. If the white is keeping you warm during the Fall/Winter then I say go for it!

Happy Sunday!

Leopard Blazer

November 24, 2014

This is a simple and polished look that is easy for anyone to pull off.
I combined cropped and fitted black pants with a basic black tank (the blacks should match though). Then used the leopard blazer to pull the look together, along with glossy pumps and a few gold bracelets.

Happy Monday!

Belted Scarf

November 19, 2014

This scarf is one of my best eBay purchases from several years ago. It's actually still available through the link below. I decided to try something different and spice up a basic long sleeve tee and jeans. I draped the scarf around my neck, left one side longer and then belted it with a stretchy belt. It's a simply idea that can easily be recreated in several different ways.

Crimson & Navy

November 14, 2014

My plan was to skip the whole midi-skirt craze altogther. Don't get me wrong, I love the style, but I always felt uncomfortable when I would try one on. It felt like I was wearing a big balloon skirt. Then I unexpectedly came across this pencil meets midi meets peplum design and I swooned. I have to admit, I was also drawn to this skirt because it reminds me of a mermaid tail.

Happy Friday!

Recipe ~ Dark Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

November 12, 2014

The Fall weather always makes me want to indulge.
I find so much comfort in a mug of hot chocolate or a warm and gooey cookie.
I haven't made these cookies in a while and the other night I just couldn't stop thinking about them, so I dug through my recipe box until I found the old and stained recipe card. I will warn you, they are pretty addicting. But don't feel too guilty, they are oatmeal :).

  • 1/2 Cup Butter Softened (Plugra is my favorite)
  • 3/4 Cup of Flour
  • 1 1/2 Cup of Oats
  • 1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup of Fresh Chopped Cranberries
  • 1/2 Cup of Dark Chocolate Chips (I use Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Baking Chips, they are amazing for this recipe)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Bring together the butter, egg and sugar. Mix well. Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, oats and salt. Stir until all the ingredients are well distributed. Mix in the chocolate chips and cranberries. I bake these on a cookie sheet that is sprayed with coconut baking spray for about 13-15 minutes. This makes roughly about 15 cookies. Enjoy!

November 10, 2014

I wore this out Friday night for dinner and a movie with my boyfriend. I was complimented twice by two different men about my outfit, I was somewhat surprised as that normally doesn't happen, especially with a man on my arm. Obviously it's because of this beautiful top. I love the cut, color and flowy fabric. I think it can work in so many ways... I'm thinking next time I can style it over leather skinny pants and a thin belt.

How would you style this top?

DIY Halloween Costume ~ Black Swan

October 31, 2014

I had such a great time creating this costume.
The only items I purchased were a plastic tiara, a bag of small feathers that were pre-dipped in silver glitter and a few bags of the large feathers, all from Michael's and my total was under $20. I did purchase the eye tattoos as well from Etsy here for $4.
The H&M skirt and Elie Tahari pumps I already owned, so I decided they were the best options for the costume. I ended up using an old Victoria's Secret lingerie bustier and decided to sew the large black feathers on that. I had to be strategic in placing them, especially in the chest area. I simply sewed both ends of each feather, one at time. I kept trying it one because it lays so differently on the body then it does on a flat table.
The tiara was a child's size and silver with rhinestones and fur, but I removed the fur and simply covered up the tiara with the small dipped feathers. I sewed these into place too, I prefer sewing over gluing because they end up too flat with glue. The sewing allows them to flutter and move. I then used some black ribbon I had at home and created the arm cuffs by simply sewing four feathers on each one. Then I wrapped them around my wrist and cut off the loose ends. Additionally I took three small feathers, the ones with the prettiest ends and simply pulled off the excess feathers so that only the tips were left on the stem. Once I had my hair in a tight bun, I simply stuck them in, making sure they were secure.
The temporary tattoos around my eyes is something new for me. I really love the way it looks actually. I first did my make-up then put those on last. Then I touched up my eyes to make them more cohesive with the tattoos. I have some photos of the process below.

Wishing you a safe and happy Halloween!
