Little Bit Country

September 24, 2013

When I first saw this dress, I automatically thought of Johnny Cash.
It's a little bit country, with the white piping, the full skirt and over-sized floral print.
I love the button-up front and the overall vintage vibe it gives off.

Now onto some bigger news...
This small town girl is taking her country dress to the big city of Los Angeles.
My boyfriend and I are in the middle of moving our place to the West LA area. Neither of us have lived in Southern CA before, so it's going to be a big adventure for the both of us. I have a new job that I'm excited about, I will still be working in event management but with a new company. My new position covers 11 states, so I will be traveling on a regular basis. This amount of work travel is new for me, but I'm thrilled about the opportunity.

Beauty Week ~ Skin Care

September 19, 2013

It's day 4 of Beauty Week and today we are talking skin care.

On my latest Marshalls excursion, I picked up my some of my night and day moisturizers since I was running low. I have been using these Skincare Cosmetics Retinol creams for a while now and I love them. At first I was ordering these online for about $35 a piece, until one day I came  across the product at Marshalls and they were only $10 and $12 each! It has been over a year now and the store consistently carries these two products. I also love this Elizabeth Arden eye cream, it's heavy and rich, just what you want in an eye cream. It retails for $30, but got it for $13. Lastly, I picked up this complexion brush for $4, I've considered getting the Clarisonic, but I'm not ready to throw down $150 for a rotating face brush?!? I've actually been using a very soft toothbrush, along with a facial scrub cream and doing my own exfoliating once a week so this brush is a step up for me! :)

Today I'm sharing my own personal skin care guidelines;

1. Wash your face every night and morning. I think I was about 12 when I realized the importance of washing your face every night. Since then it's been a very rare occasion that I've gone to sleep without washing my face whether I was wearing makeup or not.
2. Moisturize each night. I love this Retinol night cream, it's really rich and moisturizing (and has 400,000 I.U.'s of Vitamin A!). I can feel how happy my skin is after I apply it.
3. Wear sunscreen every day, all year long. The day cream above has SPF 20 which is plenty.
4. Apply eye cream every night before bed. Also, be very gentle when removing your eye makeup at night, the skin around the eyes is extremely thin and sensitive.
5. Include your neck and decolletage in your routine, you want them to age at the same rate.
6. Exfoliate once a week. I tried my new Spa Sister Complexion Brush last night and it's amazing! It covers a wider area and I simply made little circles all around my face. My skin felt softer, smoother, some of the redness diminished and my skin is glowing this morning. I highly recommend this brush!
7. Always wear your sunglasses outside, squinting can only encourage the wrinkles to come sooner.
8. Lastly, and the hardest for me, drink plenty of water and sleep as much as you can. Easier said than done right?

Do you have any skin care secrets you can share?

Beauty Week ~ Makeup

September 18, 2013

Day 3 of Beauty Week and today we are discussing makeup.
I found all these little goodies at my neighborhood Marshalls and couldn't be more excited about the color combination. I found an array of e.l.f. studio items; mascara, gel eyeliner, eye shadow and a beautiful bronzer/blush duo set. I also found a gorgeous set of fat lip sticks by Ellen Tracy!

Today I'm sharing with you my typical makeup routine and incorporating my new finds into that routine.
It typically takes about 10 minutes to do each morning.
I hope you enjoy it!

 1. Start with a clean and well moisturized face. Let your moisturizer set-in for a few minutes before you start your makeup. (I never thought I'd be posting a photo of my naked face on the Internet for the world to see, oh well)
2. I wear mineral powder every day, but I like to use foundation primer underneath it because it helps my makeup last longer and also helps diminish my large pores. I also use concealer under my eyes and prep my lids with eye shadow primer, it makes a world of difference, your eye shadow and eyeliner are not only easier to apply but they last so much longer.
  3. Sweep a shimmery neutral tone to your eye brown bone, I like one that is off white, it really highlights the area. Cover your eyelids with a darker neutral, I like a rich nutmeg tone. Next apply the color you want to showcase in your eye crease, sweeping it back and forth initially and then sweeping outward to the edge of your crease.
  4. I'm a big fan of gel-based eye liners, they are easier to apply and last longer. This dark purple color is so much fun. I usually make a thin line from the inner corner of my eye and make it thicker as I work my way out (most gel-based liners come with a brush, but you can get one at any beauty store).
  5. Apply mascara, start as close as you can to the root, wiggle it at the root, then work your way out. I've discovered a little trick; if you layer multiple mascaras you can get major volume and length. For example, in these photos, I did 2-3 layers of the new e.l.f. studio mascara and then grabbed my older mascara and finished it with another 2-3 layers. I then finished off with a very thin layer on my lower lashes.
  6. Fill in your eyebrows with pencil that is a few shades lighter than your hair color, it should highlight your shape, but you shouldn't actually see a line. I use a very light brown color and lightly shape it while also filling in any sparse areas.
  7. Oh how I love my bronzer! This e.l.f. studio bronzer/brush duo has a great beachy tone. Lightly apply bronzer to your cheekbone and temple area. I also like to apply a little extra on the outer edges of my forehead. Finish it off with a light dusting of the blush to the apples of your cheeks.
  8. These Ellen Tracy lip color sticks are an amazing #fabfound!
The colors are beautiful and they are so easy to apply, I love them and can't wait to wear them all! I went with a pale pink tone that complimented the eye colors I selected.
  Your all done, easy breezy!

Beauty Week ~ Voluminous Wavy Hair

September 17, 2013

Day two of beauty week and today we are talking about my favorite; Hair!
I think everyone has the potential for gorgeous sexy hair, it just needs to be unleashed with the right products and a few tricks. On my Marshalls shopping trip this weekend, I picked up a few essentials, Oscar Blandi volumizing dry shampoo, CHI Helmet Head hairspray, Plantlife's Argan Oil and I decided to splurge on a shiny new Swissco hairbrush, it was only $5! Marshalls carries an assortment of hair products including shampoos, conditioners and hair serums at a fraction of the price compared to department stores. Why pay full price if you don't have to?

Today I'm sharing with you my steps to achieve voluminous wavy hair;
1. Follow your normal shampoo/conditioner hair-washing routine.
2. Brush your wet hair and add a few drops of argan oil to your hands and massage
through your hair, concentrating on the tips. This gives it shine and softness.
3. Blow dry your hair freely without using a hairbrush, let it go wild, you will
look like a frizzy lioness :). This gives it body and fullness, but don't worry,
the next step will tame it.

    4. Starting with the bottom layers, take hair into sections and curl outward
with a large barrel curling iron, the size I'm using is 1.5".
   5. This is going to sound odd, but dry shampoo is actually an awesome root
volumizer in addition to being a great product for it's intended use. Spray dry
shampoo to your roots, mainly focusing on the crown of your head.
  6. Next, gently tease the roots that you sprayed with the dry shampoo using a teasing comb. Careful not to go overboard and cause frizzing.
7. Now gently tease the tips of your hair around the outside of your head,
again don't over do it, it will just look frizzy.
  8. Finish with a good dose of hairspray and scrunch with your hands.
  You're ready to rock!

Beauty Week ~ Caviar Nails

September 16, 2013

I'm proclaiming this week as beauty week on my blog.
Today I'm focusing on nails and later this week we'll talk about hair and make-up.

I usually keep my nails short and simple, with the occasional pale pink polish, but I decided to go wild this weekend. Recently I was strolling through my neighborhood Marshalls and came across this beautiful Ciaté Caviar Manicure set. I'd seen this set at beauty stores before, but the hefty $25 price tag usually quieted my curiosity. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally try it for only $10, so into my shopping basket it went. I continued on with my typical hunt, hitting up the handbag section and couldn't believe my eyes when I came across this pristine Isaac Mizrahi red leather clutch with gorgeous gold hardware for only $29, it retails for $118 (we are talking 75% off!). I knew it would look amazing with my caviar manicure, I had to get it. Plus isn't it perfect for Fall?

Ok, now let's talk about this nail set. It was actually very easy to apply. First apply one coat, and right after you apply the second coat, you place your finger over the provided tray and sprinkle the nail with the caviar pearls. Then gently press down on them to secure them into place over the wet nail polish. You do this for each nail then wait 15-20 minutes for them to completely dry in place. The set also provides you with a funnel, so you can save all the extra pearls that didn't stick to your nail and spilled into the tray, very smart.

I have to say, I really love how they turned out. The texture takes a little getting used to, but it looks so fancy. I'm excited to use it again for a girls night out or a special date night. Oh, and how gorgeous do they look with my new clutch? Love it.

Cherry & Berry

September 11, 2013

I felt like a walking popsicle in this outfit.
Some staring took place as I ate lunch with my boyfriend,
but nothing hindered the cheerful spirit I felt in these colors.
I tend to stick with darker neutral colors, but lately I've just been craving color,
not just color, but random color combinations. They make me smile and
feel so sunny, too bad this happened at the end of summer.
Two weeks ago I experimented with orange and pink, see it here
I'm now playing with the idea that red and purple might be a good combination or
red and turquoise...

Do you have any clashing color combinations you like to wear?

Leather Skinnies

September 9, 2013

I'd been searching for the perfect skinny leather pants and I finally found them, they are soft, fitted and feature the perfect amount of zippers. I took them out for a test drive on the Santa Monica streets over the weekend. They are so much fun to wear.

So I've been shopping in my own closet this week.
I rediscovered the amazing Nicole Richie shawl that I wore on Thursday.
It's actually a maternity piece that my sister gave me  following her first pregnancy.
It's a beautiful piece and has so much versatility,
I also use it as a bikini cover up during the summer.

Happy Friday!
